HAUNTED: why, where, who, what????

A message from Albert Nonn, chief editor of HAUNTED, April 2010

"In October 2009 a new paranormal magazine came to life - zombie like, but with brains, intelligence, humour and an unequivocal thirst to satisfy its readers. That magazine was called HAUNTED and it came packed full of scary goodness, informative well written, well researched entertaining features, celebrity interjections and just about anything and everything that fell within the eclectic mix of the paranormal umbrella, ella, ella. The pilot issue, lovingly known as Issue #0 featured Derren Brown, Derek Acorah, Girls Aloud and Scooby-Doo .... it started a whole new trend in paranormal magazines"

Sales pitch: Issue #0 is still available, although fast becoming a limited edition ....

"Where HAUNTED tries to differ from the other paranormal magazines that are out there, good though they are, is that it stretches the genre and infuses all the sides and faces that the paranormal industry throws up and shake it up in a big gothic velvet style bag, mixing it with potion de la celebrity, adding a few pinches of spirituality before chopping up a few cloves of the paranormal's dark and demonic side, then mixing and blending all that together and finally topping up with Holy Water (just to be on the safe side)".

"The response from the pilot issue was very positive, although not available in the shops it generated some good reviews (thanks Mum), and it gained quite a cult following with very little advertising. This feedback took us into 2010 knowing that we were on the way to getting something that people wanted to read and after a few tweaks here and there, the first official HAUNTED, affectionately known as Issue #1 came out in February 2010. Along with my right hand man, left hand man and managing editor, Paul we brought in new features, kicked out ones that just didn't sit right and published a magazine that we were proud of ... we were taken aback and indeed humbled that a few celebrities within the paranormal field were keen to write for HAUNTED: Lesley Smith, of Most Haunted Live!! & Jason Karl, presenter, author and creative director of scare entertainment company Atmosfear UK".

Sales pitch: Issue #1 is still available, although getting low on stock ....

"The response from Joe & Joanne Public was very positive, and very welcoming. All we wanted to do was to publish a magazine that we would be proud for people to read. Sales were much improved from the pilot issue and we had our first stockist location: the beautiful Tutbury Castle".

"So, now, fast forward a couple of months and it is a pleasure to announce that the second official HAUNTED, warmly known as #2 is now out and available and features more writers than you can shake a very large ghostly stick at: Lesley Smith, Jason Karl, Philip Solomon, Libby Clark, Lee Roberts and Hazel Ford (of Haunted Happenings) to name but six all have their tu' penneth say. We have brought in some new features and we are always looking at new ideas that we can use in HAUNTED. We totally respect the paranormal industry even though our humour and the ethos of HAUNTED is slightly tongue-in-cheek we want to publish a magazine for believers, non-believers, sceptics, die-hards and open minded types and we believe that we have"

"The reason for my message to you all today, and I thank you for taking the time to read this, is to inform you that we are about to take HAUNTED to the next level. One disadvantage that we encountered, selling wise, is that we didn't sit on the shelves of WH Smiths’BUT we can exclusively reveal to you that from the fifth official HAUNTED, which will be adoringly known as Issue #5, HAUNTED will be available in WH Smiths’, which we are chuffed to little mintballs about. We thought, maybe in two, three years time it might be ready to take onto the High Street, but people that matter have told us that it is ready. Now, the hard work begins, and you wont see us high-fiving and whoop-whooping (well not in public anyhow).  We are working on the next two issues at the moment, the third official HAUNTED, seductively known as #3 is a HAUNTED Seaside Location special with the working title "Wish You Were Eerie" (do you see what we have done there?)".

Finally, remember don't be normal and natural: be PARAnormal and SUPERnatural.

Goodbye

Albert Nonn
